The information the Bible gives us about how God created the world is mind-boggling for us humble humans. We can’t really wrap our heads around it. How did He do it? How is it possible that a whole lot of something was created out of nothing? Did it all happen in six literal days? Or was it actually six eras of time? And where did God come from anyway? So many questions.
Some questions in life, this side of heaven, will go unanswered. But we can be sure of this: the Bible from beginning to end goes to great lengths to answer the why question. Why did God make the heavens and the earth? Why did He create people?
The answer is simple: God created earth and its people because He loves us and wants to have a relationship with us. And He wants us to love Him and to love each other.
In the Garden of Eden, life was like God intended it to be. Perfect and complete. No pain. No fear. No sickness. God and man living life together in perfect harmony. Wouldn’t it be great if life could be like that again? Where everyone enjoyed a perfect loving relationship with God and with each other?
Nothing would please God more. It’s what He’s wanted from the beginning of time. It’s why He created this world. And for a while God had that kind of relationship with Adam & Eve. We’re not told how long that lasted, but we do know this – God still longs to have that kind of relationship with man. The depth of that longing will be seen in the Bible StoryBoards that follow, as we see the astonishing story of what God did, and continues to do, to draw us into a loving relationship with Him, forever.
Isaiah 45:18
For this is what the LORD says – He who created the heavens, he is God; He who fashioned and made the earth, He founded it; He did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited – He says: “I am the LORD, and there is no other.”
As you are going about your days this week, try to intentionally notice the beauty of God’s creation around you. Let it remind you of God’s incredible love for you and His desire to walk with you day-by-day.
