2000 years is a long time to wait for a promise to be fulfilled. Long enough to be forgotten. But God kept His promise when He sent Jesus—a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—into the world.
After the 400 years of silence, God spoke again – this time through His son. Jesus was the long awaited Messiah. The promised descendant of Abraham through whom the entire world would be blessed. In Him, God’s plan for bringing man back into a loving relationship with Him was displayed for all to see. And this time the relationship wasn’t dependent on man’s obedience to God. This time it was based on God’s work, not man’s.
Jesus was born, grew up, ministered, died, rose from the dead, and went back to heaven – all within a short thirty-three years. Through all of that He fulfilled and revealed God’s plan.
The historical account of Jesus’ life is told in the first four books of the New Testament. Each is written by one of His followers. Each is unique in its approach, yet they are unified in their message. They finally reveal God’s plan for saving man from his sin. For bringing man back into a relationship with God. Once and for all.
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John tell us what God did to give us life now and forever, when He sent His own son to die for us, to pay the ultimate and final price for our sin. What He did was definitely worth the wait.
